"The most enjoyable part of this day in Brighton for me was participating in a
cabaret workshop, for people to develop their creativity, confidence and
communication skills led by a cabaret artist and performer Maria Trevis. In a
space with 12 participants approximately 4 had been to something like this
before. It proved a great opportunity for me rediscover my leadership and
directorial skills when we were split into smaller groups to devise short pieces of theatre... it was so nurturing and really gave the participants the opportunity to become comfortable with the material we were working with.
By the end of the workshop all the shyness and self critique from participants had left the room mostly due to the way Maria layered elements of performance slowly on top of one another like Lego building blocks allowing the confidence in the room to build at a steady and satisfying rate…and it has given me back some of the confidence and determination to believe in myself again."
